Programme Title

EDUCATION (B.Sc. (Ed) PHYSICAL EDUCATION AND (B.Sc. (Ed) HEALTH EDUCATION

PHILOSOPHY

The rationale for BSc. (Ed) Physical and Health Education is based on the philosophy of Bayero University Kano as contained in the strategic plan of 2004-2008 which is in line with the philosophy of education as out lined in the national policy on education NPE (2005) which aimed at: “Providing students with a professional physical and Health Education knowledge and skills that will positively facilitate Physical Education, Games and Sports and Health Education changes in the community which could lead to attainment of healthful living and productive society”.

Objectives of the Programme

  • To develop both intellectual abilities and physical skills applicable to problems of human movement.
  • To prepare teachers of Physical Education and Health Education for Post-Primary institusions.
  • To prepare competent personnel needed as sports administrators, sports coaches and organizers in sports council, institutions of leaming and the private sector.
  • To lay an appropriate groundwork for advanced studies in physical educa1ion, health education, recreation education and sports.

Admission Requirements:

  • Four years BSc. Programme Candidates for admission to the 4 year programme should posses:
    • The Senior School Certificate Examinations (SSCE) with five (5) credits in relevant academic subjects, or.WASC/GCE (Ordinary Level) with five (5) credits in relevant subjects, or
    • Teacher Grade II certificate with five (5) credits or merits in relevant subjects, or
    • Any other qualification deemed by the Uiversi1y as equivalent to any of the above
  • ThreeYearB.Sc. Programme Candidates for admission to the 3-year programme must posses either:
    • The Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) with minimum of three "C" grades including Physical and Health Education, or
    • GCE passes in five (5) relevant subjects of which at least three must be at "A" level, or
    • GCE passes in four (4) relevant subjects of which at least three must be at "A" level, or
    • IJMB pass examination results, or
    • Diploma in Physical and Health Education with at least Credit from recognized institutions, or
    • Any other qualification judged by the Faculty Board of Education and the Senate as equivalent to any of the above.
  • Practical Interview :All candidates for the degree programme are subjected to an interview involving physical fitness and sports skill tests in addition to 1he qualification stated above.
